 On Sunday 29th October the UPSU will be sending students to London on Admission:Impossible. By doing this we are preparing for our next big battle, the fight against government and VCs moves to raise the cap on top-up fees.
What is Admission:Impossible?Admission: Impossible seeks to highlight the effects of the new policy of top-up fees which is deterring potential students from going to university.
The vote in 2004 that resulted in top-up fees was won by only five votes. This means if three more MPs had voted in our favour, fees would have been banished – this was the closest the Government ever came to a defeat whilst holding its landslide majority. We can prevent the raising of the cap on tuition fees, it will be no easy task but we know we can win especially if we start now. MPs are still on our side; we just need to demonstrate that this is an important issue for students. By
bombarding MPs and vice-chancellors with requests for support, and by hitting the streets of London in protestagainst fees, we will illustrate the strength of feeling around this issue. Sidestepping the topic will be unavoidable, and fees will return to the top of the political agenda where they belong.

Your role, as a special agent of this campaign, cannot be over-emphasised. Thetime for mobilisation around top-up fees is now. The time to make our voices heard is now. And the time to present the facts about fees and show government how powerful the student movement is now. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to unite with students across the UK to fight for fair access, to fight against: debt, lifting the cap, marketisation and, ultimately, to fight for free education. NUS believes that by uniting together, we will be uniting to win.
what, where & how?
The University of Portsmouth Students’ Union will be taking a coach load of students up to London for the National Demonstration.
When?Sunday 29th October.
We will be leaving at 9am to be in London for 11am. We only ask you to pay £1 for the journey up, this is to cover petrol costs.
Where?We will be leaving from outside the Students' Union. By the cash points.
How?Just be there! Make sure you bring some placards with you and lets make some noise and show the goverment that we're not lying down!
The rally will be starting at 1:30pm in Trafalgar Square and will last approximately 2 hours. We will then take the coach back to Portsmouth.
