A London based homeless charity is struggling to find volunteers for its Christmas project.
Crisis, a London based homeless charity are very short of volunteers to spare some time for their shelters this year. The charity is worried that as so few people have offered support this year some centres will have significant difficulty opening this year. Whilst calling for help a volunteer explained “People really look forward to the event with many regulars who will be disappointed should their local centres not open.” Anyone with a few hours to spare over the festive period is encouraged to contact Crisis to help out with their Crisis Open Christmas (COC). In 2006 the COC and a team of volunteers helped homeless and vulnerably housed people in the following way.
• Over 700 used their healthcare services,
• 267 had eye tests
•156 had dental treatment delivered by mobile units outside our centres
• 286 had their feet treated by a podiatrist
• 1150 took the opportunity to have a haircut
• 450 were given much needed professional advice, with positive housing outcomes achieved for 166 guests
Without more help these people will not be able to benefit this Christmas
