What's this? 

Just a draft document at the moment outlining what needs to happen, and by when, to get an issue of the newspaper off the ground. More detail to be added as we go, and maybe it needs to be split or colour-coded into various team areas...?

Tue

  • 1830 Pre-issue meeting and outline briefing - (sub)editors' chance to bitch, whinge and moan! Also a good chance to mention anything going in

Wed

  • 1200 Features chosen

Thu

  • 1200 Reviews chosen
  • 1700 Post-its in place for features and reviews

Fri

  • 1200 Sport news chosen
  • 1200 Editorial "scrum" - talk about forthcoming issue, design ideas, article positioning - if you're not there, you don't have a say!
  • 1400 Sport news post-its in place
  • 1800 News chosen
  • 1800 News post-its, take your places please :o)
  • 1800 All articles edited by paper editor and moved into "PN > issue x > _News/_Features, etc"
  • 1900 Design work begins - initial lay-up from post-its

Sat:

  • 1200 Design work recommences. Paper, news, features, reviews and paper design editors should all be present
  • 1300 Editing complete by now
  • 1500 Articles edited and finalised by now
  • 1800 First checkpoint - all pages planned and at least 4 pages laid up
  • 2100 Second checkpoint - at least 6 pages laid up
  • 2100 Continuity check 1

Sun

  • 1200 Design work recommences. Paper and paper design editors present
  • 1500 Check point 3 - 8 pages laid up (less than 8? Panic!)
  • 1500 Continuity check 2
  • 1800 Check point 4 - 10 pages laid up
  • 1800 Continuity check 3
  • 2100 Check point 4 - 12 pages laid up
  • 2100 Final print and continuity check. Paper signed off by editorial team (design and paper editor = quorate)
  • 2200 Postscript/PDF run-offs
  • 2300 Upload to printers

Mon

  • 0800 Media Officer in office and by phone in case of last-minute problems at printers
  • 1100 Paper should have been printed by now - everyone relax :o)

Tue

  • 1600 (approx) Paper delivered. Early deliveries to Balfours, Blackwells, Union foyer
  • 1800 Wash-up meeting and general bitching session, swiftly followed by a pint or several in the bar...

Wed

  • 1000 Paper distro - all hands on deck to hand out 5-500 papers each (please!). Distro maps in Sabb office - get here early to get the easy spots!

Thu

  • 1800 If any papers are left now, are they really worth handing out? :o(
