It's all about RAG!
Hello, and welcome to the first big RAG (Raising and Giving) update of the year!
This year RAG is on target to absolutely smash the £40,000 set for ourselves, and have already kicked off the year with a bang with clubs, societies and student groups raising lots for brilliant charities! See below for the first official league table of the year!
This year we're running Student Adventures challenges, where recruits can face the challenge of a lifetime whilst raising for charity. We have 26 recruits signed up to our Kilimanjaro Trek, with figures for London to Paris Cycle and Everest Base Camp (organised by the Mountaineering and Climbing society.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month was a great success, with the RAG team, Cheer, Dance, Netball, Racquet and UPSU staff raising over £800 in total. The month saw Cheer team up with the RAG committee to invade Commercial Road for an exciting RAG Raid, and Purple Wednesday become Pink Wednesday for one night only. In our own Waterhole Bar, hair was sprayed, pink was donned and money was raised!
As we near the end of Movember, plenty of students including the Earth Society have been growing their facial fuzz to raise awareness and money for men's health charities, and the RAG Social managed to collect more than £120 for the Movember Foundation by simply having a night out!
The AU's charity Naked Calendar is running this year, after winning at the Naked Debate, and will be launched on Thursday 1st December at Liquid. All calendar proceeds go to a chosen charity (TBC).
Your fantastic RAG Committee are currently working on plans for great events in the coming months, including what is shaping up to be Portsmouth's biggest ever RAG Week. Running from March 17th - 25th, there's loads to get involved in, from jumping out of a plane, to the exciting Assassin's Guild, RAG Raids, the Sport Relief Mile and even the chance to get a bit merry - all in the name of charity! Make sure you and your club/society/group of friends don't miss out - get on board and get involved!
If you want to get involved in any of these awesome events, contact rag@upsu.net.

First Blog!
Welcome to my Sabb blog, written whilst sitting downstairs at Gun House playing music to the other Sabbs (One Direction are my favourite guilty pleasure.) and having pens thrown at me by a certain Sports Sabb...
One big thing that's kicked off this week is Breast Cancer Awareness month, which Steve will be telling you more about! RAG hosted a RAG Raid on Commercial Road on Saturday, and with the help of the lovely cheer girls raised over £400!
Lots of students turned up for the Naked Debate Tuesday, go Democracy!
This afternoon we've been out talking to students all over campus, asking them how they prefer to be communicated with by the Union - email seems to be a firm winner! If you have any views on this, drop me an email!
