Final Year?...Have Your Say...NSS!
I remember being in your shoes last year juggling course work hand-ins, extracurricular activities and squeezing in a social life.
By sparing just a few minutes to complete the NSS you can really make change. Don’t believe me? Well let’s see what’s been said already and what the University has done about it so far:
You said: 85% of you were satisfied with your courses
The University did: We have looked at what you particularly valued and worked to improve things even further. We’re also looking at what 6% of you didn’t feel satisfied with, so we can make improvements.
You said: The University Library should be open for longer.
The University did: The Library was open 24 hours during the exam period this January, and will be open 24 hours during May this year.
You said: We want more PCs available on campus.
The University did: We’ve added more PCs in the Open Access area in the Library and we’re installing more Quick Access PCs across the campus, starting in Richmond Building.
You said: We want quicker and more useful feedback on our work.
The University did: We’re trialling an online system for marking and returning work within 20 working days. We’re also revising the policy on assessment and feedback.
You said: We want to see our timetables earlier and have fewer changes.
The University did: The Vice-Chancellor is taking overall responsibility for timetabling. We plan to give students a draft timetable in August, with only essential changes thereafter.
The NSS is an annual survey of final year undergraduates and is the largest national survey of student opinion in the world. Each year since it began in 2005, over 300,000 final year undergraduate students have been involved.
Make sure you get your voice heard. Be a part of something amazing and create change for students at Portsmouth.
Let the University, Students’ Union and prospective students know what your experience was like at Portsmouth. Because we want you to be as honest as possible, all the results are anonymous.
By completing the survey you will be entered in to a prize draw and could win a £50 shopping voucher – we have 50 to give away. To be in with a chance to win you will need to complete the survey by 30th March.
You will see lots of promotion around NSS very soon! The survey opens on Monday 6 February. You will receive an email from NSS directly, or you can visit www.thestudentsurvey.com from today - 27th April 2012. You could also catch one of our NSS promoters on campus this week – they’ll give you a tasty treat if you complete the survey there and then.
If you have more questions about the NSS or want to let the Students’ Union or the University know what they can change now, email the team at godfrey@upsu.net.
Best of luck in your exams and for the remainder of the year and look forward to seeing you at the Graduation Ball in July :)
