What are Student Officers?

Student Officers are students who are elected in to these voluntary positions to represent groups of students or issues within the Union. Each Student Officer is responsible for a certain area to represent; Black, Disabled, International, EU, Women, Mature, LGBT, Post graduate, Part time students and also Ethics and Environment.

Student Officers are a point of contact for students with issues or concerns either within the Union, University or wider community and they take these to Student Council to discuss with Sabbaticals and the student body in order to resolve these issues. Student Officers are also there to ensure your welfare during their year in office and so run campaigns about issues that could affect you.

All your Student Officers have office hours so you can pop in to talk about issues or campaigns that you would like to see happen.

Student Officer Elections

The student officer nominations for 2012/13 are now open. There are ten voluntary positions available: Womens', BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic), Mature, Part-time, Postgraduate, Disabled, International, Ethics and Environment, EU and LGBT.

By becoming a student officer you will gain loads of experience for your CV, represent the voice of under-represented students to the Union and University and create positive change for your electorate.

Student Officers will be line-managed by the President of the Union but held accountable by the students and so you will attend monthly Student Councils to update the student body on what you have been working on.

If elected as a student officer you will also attend the NUS liberation conference for your remit and represent your students at a National Level.
