Sponsorship

Involvement in sports clubs and special interest societies is at an all-time high as students seek to sharpen their skills, or let off steam after studying.

Sports clubs
Our sports clubs travel the length of the country throughout the year, competing in both University and local leagues. We welcome kit sponsorship, and our clothing suppliers are used to liaising with companies to ensure a quality presence on the field. Involvement with sports clubs can also guarantee exposure at formal dinners, awards ceremonies, and press events.

Societies
We actively promote diversity among students - and this is reflected in the growth in membership of our special interest societies. With over 100 active societies boasting around 4,000 members, there is great potential for sponsors to associate with a relevant party. From photography to skydiving, poker to belly dancing - your options are endless.

Volunteering
Our award winning V.I.P. (Volunteering in Portsmouth) team are involved in projects that are diverse, versatile and which really make a difference in the community. These events often generate favourable coverage in the local press.

RAG
Our Raising and Giving (R.A.G) - volunteers raised in excess of £15,000 in 2009 for 3 nominated charities. Students like to explore unconventional methods to raise money, last year using: a sponsored skydive, town ‘raids’ and a naked calendar

Media
The strong media tradition at the University has the following outlets:

• Our newspaper - Pugwash News - has a fortnightly run of 3,000 copies.
• Our award winning magazine is produced four times a year and is circulated to over 5000 students.
• UPSU.net is the award winning community - based Students’ Union website.
• A monthly newsletter is emailed directly to thousands of student subscribers.
• The student radio station PureFM, in its 15th year, broadcasts to the student population 7 days a week, collaborating with local station Express FM.

Vehicles
The Students’ Union has a small fleet of vehicles that travel to countrywide sporting fixtures every week. Your company will have a presence on the outside of the vehicles and will be in full view at all times.

Endorsement

The Students’ Union collaborates with promoters to provide several approved club nights during the week, attracting audiences of up to 2,000 per night. We can offer promotional opportunities to our sponsors in the form of wristbands, publicity distribution or on-site promoting.

UPSU's Purple Wednesday launched in 2010 into a new era of partnership with The Waterhole Bar teaming up with Highlight, Bar Risa, Bar 38 and Portsmouth's number one student promoters - Eskimo11.

Events

Presence at large, well-attended events can be a very effective way of gaining brand exposure. We have several opportunities throughout the year.

We have three large open air events annually, starting with the hugely successful Freshers’ Fayre at the start of the academic year which sees a footflow of around 12,000 students over 2 days. Next is the Re-Freshers Fayre in February and the year closes with the cultural Carnival in May.

The Students’ Union commissions four formal balls in September, December and May, finishing with the Graduation ball in July, which attracts attendances of over 2,000.

Portsmouth Vs Southampton Varsity
Now in its second year, this has quickly become the largest varsity in the country, with over 4,000 students involved.

Boxing
Our Boxing Club is recognised as the best University club in the country. Our shows are major events that attract large crowds of both students and the local community.

Athletic Union Awards Dinner
The culmination of the sporting season, this is always well attended by players and decision makers who come together to celebrate the efforts and achievements of the previous year.

Student Activities Awards Dinner
All volunteers come together at the end of the academic year, to celebrate their achievements at this black tie dinner.

Distribution

You can distribute fliers and products yourself to the students in the SU building: all you need to do is book this day in advance through our commercial team and then report to reception.

We operate a campus wide distribution and promotion service undertaken by Street Team, our team of student staff who can also be hired by external companies to promote their brands and products.

The Street Team run is every term-time Wednesday; the team distribute fliers and posters to each of the Halls of Residence, University Buildings, Cafeteria's and various other campus areas. The Street Team talk to students on their rounds about news, events, and anything else that is relevant to students at that time.

Promotional Stands

Portsmouth Students' Union’s enviable position in the heart of student life means it is perfect for reaching our student body. We have spaces to accommodate a range of activites from large scale installations to simpler stands and pop-up displays both inside and outside.

Contact students directly and face to face by hiring an onsite stall between the hours of 10am and 4pm. Depending on the scale of your planned activity we may need to carry out a risk assessement so please ensure you contact us at least a week in advance.
