Every night is "Student Night" at your Union and for that reason we always want to welcome you to the venue. However to make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable time we do have a few rules of entry. Generally these are common sense, and in addition they can save you money, so are worth remembering.

Identification
Due to licensing laws, you must be at least 18 years of age to use the bars and attend events at the Union (Unless otherwise stated). Therefore we need to see ID every time you visit. This need to be valid photographic ID that shows your name, date of birth and has an expiry date. Ideally we would this to be your NUS card, as this will give you the benefit of "Membership prices" on door entry, bars, and food outlets. * However we will also accept, Portsmouth campus cards, photo driving licenses or passports.
NB. We do not currently accept any proof of age scheme cards (national or local)
Guests
Each full member of the Union can sign in up to 3 guests. They too must be 18 or over and show valid photographic ID with date of birth. Guests are NOT eligible for membership prices, so will pay different entry, bar and food prices. *
We're sorry, but our licensing laws don't allow associate members to sign in a guest.
Unacceptable Behaviour
If you are drunk or appear drunk WE CANNOT LET YOU IN. We are sorry if this ruins your night, but it is the law and we need to ensure your behaviour does not spoil the enjoyment of everyone else. Similarly, if your behaviour is likely to cause offence or endanger other people, we may ask you to leave.
Dresscode
While we only rarely tell you what you can and can't wear (obvious exceptions being black-tie events!), we do ask that you stick to some basic rules of presentation:
- Guys: you've got to have a shirt/t-shirt on and buttoned up
- Girls: much the same as (1)
- ... but we're not asking you to dress the way you dress to meet your granny!
- Some forms of footwear, including those with spikes, studs or other sharp edges, are not acceptable. Stilletos are usually ok. Use your common sense on this one please!
- Clothes - if you're filthy dirty, or you smell like you just fell out of a skip, please don't be offended if we politely but firmly tell you to come back on another night.
On certain events we may ask you to remove caps, hats and hoods.
Students from other Universities and ISIC members
If you're a student at another University, or you hold a valid
ISIC card, you can use your valid University identification to get into events at UPSU.
R.O.A.R.
You will see this on our entry conditions, posters and tickets. It means Right of Admission Reserved and is standard for all venues like ours. What it means in practice is that if you are unable to meet any of our door policy requirements or if for any reason we think you may spoil others enjoyment and/or put yourself and others at risk, we reserve the right to refuse you entry.
* Membership Prices
Portsmouth Students Union is keen to reward the loyalty of its members and as such offers "Membership Prices" for door entry, bars and food outlets. Non members including guests are charged standard rates. For example non-members and guests are usually charged £2 more for door entry. But do check event details for specifics.
