Accessibility
The University of Portsmouth Students' Union is committed to increasing the accessibility of information to all users, including visitors with visual or motor impairments. This statement outlines our activities and achievements so far in increasing accessibility.
Should you encounter any problems in accessing these pages, or you would like to suggest improvements, please contact webmaster@upsu.net
Standards compliance
Our aim is for all pages within the domain www.upsu.net to comply with priority 1 and 2 guidelines of the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI).
We are striving towards validating all pages as XHTML 1.0 Transitional, whilst using structured semantic markup, with CSS 2.1 for page design.
The use of tables for non-tabular information is being phased out, however some may remain in the transitional period of changeover from the old website to new one.
Access keys
Nearly all modern browsers support jumping to key links by typing keys defined on the web site. On Windows, this is done by pressing ALT + an access key, on Macintosh, press Control + an access key.
UPSU.net uses the UK Government standard access keys:
Text resizing
The text on this website is built to resize in order to be as flexible as possible to users with different needs. Text can be increased or decreased from your browser tool bar, or on Windows, if you have a mouse with a scroll wheel, you can hold down ALT and scroll the wheel backwards or forwards to alter the text size, alternatively press ctrl and + or - to zoom into the page (ctrl+0 resets to the original size).
Exceptions
Within these pages there are links to external sites that are not part of the www.upsu.net domain. The University of Portsmouth Students' Union cannot guarantee the level of compliance of these external pages.
We are currently undertaking a project to increase the accessibility of all our pages. At this moment in time some of our pages have not been improved and are therefore not as accessible as we would like.
Opening and downloading Adobe Acrobat documents
Where we have attached a PDF document, we provide a link to the Adobe Acrobat website so that you can download the free Adobe Reader needed to open a PDF. The current version of Acrobat Reader  has improved accessibility features and includes the facility to read the text out loud.
Please note that Adobe Acrobat documents can be converted back to plain text using Adobe's Web-based conversion service.
Your feedback
We are continually working to improve the accessibility and usability of UPSU.net, and welcome all your suggestions and comments.
If you encounter any accessibility or technical problems when using this site, or if you have any comments or suggestions then please contact the UPSU Webmaster at webmaster@upsu.net
