What are Community Reps?
Community Reps is a scheme run by the University of Portsmouth Students' Union. The aim is for Community Reps to build stronger relations between students and the wider community. We want to encourage students to get involved in, look after and feel proud of their community.
Community Reps will be students living in private housing in Portsmouth, who speak on behalf of all students in their area on issues affecting them.
The role will involve interacting with students in the area by actively seeking out their views and problems they are facing, attending community meetings, representing the students in your area to the community and running campaigns targeting issues that are affecting students and local residents.
You would be expected to support students in Portsmouth with information about safety and security, housing, and the environment. This will involve building relationships with students and residents in your area. You will also be needed to promote the good work that students do to the local community.
Who can be a Community Rep?
Essentially anyone can volunteer to be a Community Rep, even if you have not had any experience in volunteering, this is a perfect opportunity to get involved and to give something back – all you need is enthusiasm!
Why be a Community Rep?
If you are interested in helping both the local community and your fellow students this is the best way to make a positive contribution to the lives of all residents in Portsmouth. You would also improve your ability to work in a team, and gain valuable experience in community work, organising events, running projects and representing students. Getting involved in being a Community Rep will be a fantastic experience and an opportunity to expand your horizons whilst giving something back and making a positive difference for students and the local community.
