Gas works to take place in busy student area

Gas works will be taking place from Monday the 4th of June at the roundabout where Fratton Road, Fawcett Road, Victoria Road North and Goldsmith Avenue meet.

The first phase of the project will begin on Monday the 4th of June and will see the northbound lane at the bridge be closed for three weeks, following this the southbound lane will be closed for three weeks.

The second phase starts on Monday the 23rd July and will last for five weeks. There will be a screening and a temporary pedestrian walkway where Fawcett Road meets the roundabout.

A map detailing where the closures and diversions will be during each phase of work.

The works are taking place to upgrade Gas Distribution Company, SGN's, existing gas pressure regulator and install an additional one at the roundabout.

SGN Engineering Manager Simon Thurlow said:

“We’ve worked closely with the local authority in planning this work and we will be doing everything we can to limit disruption during our essential project. We appreciate that roadworks can be frustrating, however, the upgrade to our network will provide more capacity to help meet an increased gas demand in the area. This means that when the work is complete, Portsmouth residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.”

If you have any enquiries about the work being undertaken you can contact SGN on 01202 784 952 during office hours (8am-4pm) or on 0800 912 1700 outside of these hours.
