Self-care

Making time for yourself every day

It’s a chaotic time of year, but here are some of our top tips on how to make some time for you and look after yourself.

With Mental Health Awareness week having come to an end, it’s important to remember that self care and looking after your mental health should be all year round. There are plenty of ways to take a few minutes to yourself, so read on to see our top tips on making time for yourself.

Just keep swimming

It can be easier said than done, but sometimes you need to take a certain fish’s advice and just keep swimming (thanks, Dory). As long as you’re pushing through and getting stuff done, you’ll feel good about yourself and can take some time for self care.

Breathe

It seems cliche, but sometimes we all need to hear it. Take a moment away, close your eyes and take a breath. When we’re stressing out, we forget to breathe. Deep breathing is said to lower stress.

Try out some of these breathing techniques if you ever find yourself panicking a little too much.

Say no!

Everyone has priorities and there are some things that just need to be done. But this also includes saying no. If you need that moment and things are getting on top of you, take the time to say no. It’s okay to say no, you don’t need to explain yourself. Just like it’s ok to not be ok.

What makes you happy?

If there’s something you like doing, then do it. Whether it’s reading a book, singing into a hairbrush like no one is looking of going out with some friends, have some fun.

Do you need your phone?

This one is a little harder, technology is everywhere from phones, to tvs, computes etc. But sometimes you need to take a break from the screen, especially if you find yourself in front of one for most of the day. Instead of having lunch with your phone, why not turn it off and have a lunch date with a friend of colleague?

Be guilt-free

Stop feeling guilty for taking some time out for yourself. It’s ok not to be ok, but at the same time, it’s okay to take some time for you. How else would we take care of the things that we need to do?
