When we train the Sabbs we teach them about “lollipop moments”. It comes from a famous TED talk about a guy who was president of his Students’ Union. He tells this story about a moment he had that had an impact on someone else’s life. He called it a “lollipop moment” and said everybody in life will have one. I think mine was when I worked in the Union’s Advice Service. There was a young lady that came in because she was thinking about dropping out of University, I thought taking her through the clubs and societies we offer might help. When I saw her at Freshers Fayre a year later, she was the captain of a club. She seemed a completely different person from the nervous and outwardly shy person who was thinking of dropping out. I think that was probably my lollipop moment.
