The Chancellor’s Cup was introduced and first awarded by Sandi Toksvig at the Chancellor’s Dinner in 2016. The award, which continues to be funded by Sandi, this year recognises the Cheerleading Club for their efforts in actively promoting inclusivity, participation, fitness and wellbeing.

Cheerleading have been seen to actively engage and entice over 100 members from all spectrums of the student population through online channels and at Freshers’ Fayre.

The club actively promotes fitness and wellbeing by holding one-to-one gym sessions with competition coaches and regular conditioning training.

The Union’s VP Sports, Ben Conway, particularly praised the Cheerleading Club for their ‘meet the committee’ campaign that was seen to put prospective members at ease.

Ben said: “Portsmouth Phoenix Cheerleading Club are deserved winners of this year’s Chancellor’s Cup and are an amazing example of the fantastic things our students do every year. Congratulations and keep up the incredible work.”
